Performance enhancement supplements to aid in the treatment of Autism and ADHD

In March 2018, the IOC released a consensus statement discussing optimum nutrition and supplementation for athletes. The document is extremely valuable for anyone looking to enhance their athletic performance.

‘Supplements with good to strong evidence of achieving benefits to performance when used in specific scenario.’

However a number of the supplements referred to on this list are known to be nootropics- supplements which either enhance cognitive performance or counteract the effect of certain pathologies such as dementia or Alzheimer's.

The supplements that made the list are caffeine, creatine, nitrates, beta alanine and sodium bicarbonate. While there is robust evidence for the ergogenic benefits of all five, it is imperative that a suitable delivery mechanism is used for each one.

Coffee is superior to straight caffeine powder as A) Caffeine powder is a lot easier to overdose with and B) By weight, coffee has some of the highest antioxidant levels of any plant, plus a number of studies suggest it may increase life expectancy, even among heavier users. It also contains chlorogenic acid as well as other beneficial compounds.
